Spring signals the start of something new. For most of us, spring is the start of a new diet or weight loss challenge, usually it’s the start of the new same ‘o, same ‘o. Every year, we vow, this is the last year we it’s going to be a lifestyle change. Then there are BBQs, graduations, weddings and birthdays, all with tons of excuses to indulge. Like everyone else, I started a new fitness challenge, complete with a diet overhaul and exercise program.
The key difference is I have an accountability buddy who reminds me throughout the day, eat your snacks, have your supplements, make sure you’re drinking your water and most of all smile. Yup, there it is, the reminder to smile, because when you’re overhauling your lifestyle, trying to function at work/life and cutting back on coffee – my life blood, it becomes a little much. Detoxing from junk AND not having unlimited coffee has resulted in migraines and general impatience.
Staying on track with the eating schedule requires a multitude of alarms that go off at the following times:
7 am Bulletproof coffee with a scoop of chocolate or vanilla protein powder
8 am: Breakfast
10:30 am: Snack
Noonish: Lunch
3 pm: Snack
6ish: Dinner
7:30 pm: Blueberry Bliss Protein Shake
Before having an accountability buddy, it was super easy to justify having a cookie instead of an apple with almond butter. It’s not so easy to slip up when you’re sending pictures of what you’re eating or have constant reminders to eat well, drink water, feel great and smile.
Sometimes, you need a little push to get started, gain momentum and build sustainable habits. Do I think I need this push for the rest of my life? I think it’s definitely worth it to surround yourself with people who have the same health and fitness goals. I’ve given up alcohol for Lent and eliminated empty calories. I realized, I feel better without it, why bring it back? Do you have an accountability (guilt) buddy to help you stick with your fitness resolutions?
In my next post, I’ll talk about how ironic it is that you need to eat nutrient dense foods AND eat more often to lose weight…what?!?? Yup, you get to eat more and lose weight #winning.
What are your tips for sticking with your diet and fitness plans? Put them in the comments.
