For the last couple of weeks, sleeping has won over getting to the gym for the o’dark 30 workout. I love to sleep and an earthquake couldn’t get me out of bed. Needless to say, working out in the morning is hit or miss, except it’s easier to be consistent in the morning since I’m usually starving when I get home from work. I read somewhere that you should do the things that are important to you before 10 am, hence the decision to workout during a time that is unnatural for night owls.
During the weekly Facebook check-in with my trainer @clackfit, I mentioned my biggest challenge was balancing my love of food with my fitness goals and getting to the gym 3 days a week. He suggested coming up with an evening routine that would help me get to the gym in the morning. The easiest solution is to go to bed earlier which is common sense, except when I lose track of time, reading a book or catching up on shows…mostly it’s catching up on shows.
Last night, I decided that it’s time to put this evening routine into practice. I hung my exercise waist cincher by the window, set my computer to the Bikini Body Mommy YouTube channel for the next workout, put my weights/exercise bands in my workout area and went to sleep in a tank top and yoga pants. It’s so much easier to stumble to the bathroom to brush my teeth, grab water and then push play on the computer to start working out without having to gather all these things and change into workout clothes. Anything you can do to take the obstacles out of the way will help you succeed in building a fitness habit. I was able to wake up early to workout, yay!
If you have any secrets to help you stick to your early morning workout routine, please share them in the comments.
