30 Minutes to Get Fit

Run Like You Stole Something

Run Like You Stole Something

Happy Fitness Friday!

I went to the gym for yoga this morning and it was SUPER PACKED!! Instead of trying to squish in there, I queued up a couple personal development podcasts and did some hardcore cardio. It was tough in the beginning and after pushing through, it felt great!

You don’t need to spend hours at the gym or have fancy equipment to get fit. You can get fit by walking 30 minutes a day, 6 days a week. You can get toned by doing squats at home or modified push-ups, and doing the plank for 30 secs at a time. My dad who is 85, will use his recumbent exercise bike for 30 minutes a day, he’s probably in better shape than my sisters, my mom and I put together. He’s my fitness inspiration!

When I gained weight last year, 174 lbs at my heaviest, I felt so bad about myself that I hated going anywhere because nothing fit. I didn’t even want to go to the gym because I was too embarrassed because I was so out of shape. It was a far cry from the gymaholic I used to be. To get back in shape,  I started by walking a couple of laps around the park with the dog. Then I started to jog a lap and walk a lap, I’m building my endurance to jog for an entire 20 minutes. While I’m not a jogger, my favorite form of cardio is  Zumba, where I can burn between 650 – 1000 calories in an hour. Recently, I found a new gym where I discovered the confidence to lift weights and now I can lift more weight than I ever thought I could. My confidence and my body is still a work in progress and I aim to make progress 30 minutes a day.

HOW TO GET BACK IN SHAPE WITHOUT KILLING YOURSELF

What you want to do when getting back in shape is to figure out how to get moving for 30 minutes doing something you love. If it’s shopping, why not walk a couple of rounds around the mall before stopping to window shop. If it’s dancing, check out a Zumba class. If you have anger management issues, join a boxing or kickboxing gym. There is nothing better than punching or kicking the crap out of heavy bag to get your frustrations out, bonus that you feel like a badass after the workout.

Next Friday, I’ll share my tips for how to get fit trying out new workouts using some of the flash sale sites.

What are you going to do to get moving for 30 minutes?
